Priyanka Pulijal: Mysterious Worlds

Los Angeles - based artist Priyanka Pulijal. In her multidisciplinary practice, Priyanka draws on Buddhist Jain and Hindu iconography, cosmology, surrealism, Rajput art, and Thai folklore, combining them with her own imagery to pioneer ancient Hindu cosmology.

Born in New Jersey in 1989, Priyanka received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and studio art from Virginia Polytechnic University in 2011. She attended Chicago Portfolio School in 2011 with a concentration on Art Direction. Priyanka created a fashion project called "tigercatcher" with proceeds given to Sakhi, a non-profit aiding women of the South Asian diaspora struggling to survive domestic violence. Exhibitions include Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, New York.

In Priyanka's art series, "Heaven(s) & Hell(s)", she reveals the concept of afterlife, multiverses, or realms of existence outlined in ancient Hindu scriptures, having a phenomenal historical impact on culture today. These ancient worlds have never been visualized or explored in the public eye. Priyanka's art pioneers Hindu cosmology to make sense of the human experience. It takes on a painting form reflective of early Hindu depictions with a modern interpretation intended to draw the viewer in as a first ever witness to ancient history and Hindu cosmology.
