Loka (Sanskrit: “world”) in the cosmography of Hinduism, is the universe or any particular division of it. Ancient Hindu texts speak of 14 realms or worlds. These worlds are said to exist metaphysically and represent various states of consciousness. Each state of consciousness or realm is reflected in a person’s nature. The universe is said to contain 7 upper and 7 lower planes of existence.
